Who we are
Builders Direct has been in the business for over 50 years, and is truly a one-stop-shop for just about any home improvement project you can imagine. The company can perform multiple tasks, from installing replacement windows, tiling, painting, stucco and roofing to complete kitchen and bath remodels to sunrooms and patio covers and repairing concrete. “My father used to take me to job sites when I was growing up, and that’s how I learned multiple trades,” says Orona. “Just about the only thing we don’t do is landscaping.”
He estimates that Builders Directs completes between 10 and 15 large remodeling projects each year. “We also do a lot of roofing repairs or replacements, window and door upgrades, and stucco jobs,” Orona says. “There seems to be a real demand for those kind of jobs here in New Mexico.”

AJ Orona – The Owner
A.J. Orona literally grew up in the home improvement business, eventually becoming a third-generation contractor and owner of Builders Direct. “My grandfather started the business in 1965,” he explains. “My father then took it over, and now me. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t going with my dad to jobs and helping out.”
For Orona, there was never any question that he was going to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. When he graduated from high school in 1990, he obtained his GB98 (a general contractor’s license). At 17 years old, he was one of the youngest in New Mexico to do so. “I love what I do,” says Orona. “I always have.”
It shows. Orona is on every job site and develops a relationship with every customer. No matter how big or small the job, he has the same goals — deliver a top-notch finished product and ensure that the customer is completely satisfied.
